German Shepherd Dog / Chow Chow / Mixed (medium coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Senior
~7 years old. Good with dogs and kids. Good with seniors/elderly. Apartment appropriate. Cats TBD. Hey there!!! I'm Gladis and I am so happy to be a part of GSRA. I found myself in a very scary place called a shelter....I was picked up as a "stray". Well, I wish I could talk and explain it all to you, but unfortunately my vocabulary is limited to "Woof". Anyhow, if I was a "stray" I was quite the scavenger, as I came into the shelter quite overweight. I was filthy and matted with tuffs of dead fur and I was very scared. I was sooooo happy to be out of there! My Foster Mom says I have been such a good girl. I am a little unsure of new things, but once I get comfortable I am just the happiest girl you could ever meet! I have a fabulous smile, and my tail never stops wagging. I really like people, and once I get to know you I will be your shadow. I am very well behaved, too. I do not jump on people, and rarely bark. I am content to be near you and be your faithful companion. I like attention, and will come and stand quietly beside you if you will pet me! I am a nice calm and simple girl. I currently live with several other dogs, and I do just fine. I prefer the older/calmer dogs, as the young bouncy ones make me nervous. I love going for walks and car rides!! If you need a walking buddy to get in shape with, I'm your girl!! If you are already in shape but just want a walking buddy, count me in!! I am on a diet (bummer), and foster mom says I need a little exercise too in order to get back to my"ideal" weight. I would love to have a family of my own to love me and let me see what it is like to be loved. I am a good girl. I am crate trained, but don't really need to be crated. I am non destructive and safe to be left loose in the house. Oh, did I mention that I am also super soft??? They say I feel like a big teddy bear! I look forward to meeting you and interviewing for the position of "canine companion"! From foster mom: Gladis is a total sweetheart! Calm, gentle and well mannered, she is just a delight. Gladis is the kind of girl that could fit into a variety of home settings...she is a very adaptable girl. I think she may have been a "yard dog" originally, as she was fascinated by everything in the house when she first arrived. It took her over a week to work up the courage to get on one of the dog beds...now it is her favorite spot!! She is a bit nervous in new situations, but once she gets acclimated her happy personality comes bubbling through. He tail just cracks me up, it never stops going! Gladis is very eager to be part of her family and will happily follow you around to see what you are up to. Gladis has very soft and expressive eyes, and will look at you as if she is trying to read your mind and she has a fantastic smile! Gladis is about 7 yrs old (best guess), and seems to be a high shepherd mix...mostly shepherd, but definitely a bit of husky or chow in the mix. Gladis is a very 'live and let live' kind of girl around the other dogs. She does not seem to want to engage in play with them, but is content to trot around the yard and co-exist. Gladis seemed to have no interest at all in the cats we tested her with at the shelter. Gladis is calm and gentle with children too. Gladis would be a great companion for anybody. She is fairly low maintenance, and is quite a content girl. Gladis will need a family that is committed to helping her continue to lose weight and then maintain her ideal weight. She has lost about 6 pounds in a little over a month, and still needs to lose about another 7-10. I have noticed a lot more bounce in her step already, so she is obviously feeling the benefit of her diet. Gladis is unfortunately HW positive, and will be undergoing treatment in the beginning of September. Come meet Gladis soon!!
