~3 years old. Good with older kids (>12 yrs), dogs and cats.
Hi, meet Bella! Bella, like so many of our rescues has had a very rough start to life and she’s only 3ish years old! You see she was found by some good Samaritans at the entrance to an animal shelter/landfill laying against a fence too weak to stand up. The poor girl was emaciated and had a really bad skin infection and just an overall lousy start to life. Well her caretakers got her to the vet and on antibiotics and lots of food and got her on the road to recovery. Unfortunately about a month ago her owner broke her ankle so badly she was unable to continue caring for Bella so thankfully we were able to step in and help out.
We think Bella is in the 2-3ish year old range, as with most rescues it’s our best "guesstimate", and she is large, already a whopping 84lbs and she could stand to gain a bit more. She is still on antibiotics for her skin infection and it seems to be clearing up nicely, her coat will take a while to come in all nice and plush but don’t let that stop you from considering this girl, she is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met and if I didn’t already have 5 she would be staying with me! LOL She has a heart of gold and is great with dogs, cats and children (over 12 yrs), she even lived with a cat and Chihuahua for a while and was perfect. She may be a little shy/timid with new people and young children at first but once she warms up she’ll follow you everywhere. She loves to snuggle on the couch and is very adamant about getting love to the point she’ll nudge you or lay her head on your chest if you forget. She is such a happy girl, she’s spayed and up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative yay! She is house and crate trained and I feed her in a crate to make sure no one steals her food because she won’t stop them. She’s perfect in the house, she might get a piece of mail or paper to chew but otherwise she is an angel. Now one thing with this girl is that she’s sensitive, she’ll feed off your emotions and I think it’s possible someone abused her once, if someone raises their voice she’ll go lay in a corner or put her head under the bed so please be aware of that. And no, I don’t yell at her, it’s my own heathens that need reminders! Lol
Bella rides great in the car and is good on leash, she would benefit greatly from an obedience class and is a quick study, she already knows sit and down. She is truly a people pleaser and would do anything for her humans. She does need an owner that can be an alpha leader for her, she tends to get nervous in new situations and around new people so someone that doesn’t feed those fears would be best to help Bella become that wonderful confident dog that I know is inside her somewhere.
UPDATE!
Unfortunately Bella recently developed a resisitance to her antibiotics and had a "flare-up" with her skin, we've switched antibiotics and she's still on the road to recovery so her available date may change since we want her as healthy as possible prior to putting her on trial.
She's also met some potential applicants and she's a little more unsocialized then I first thought around children, she tends to bark when she's nervous and this can intimidate/frighten younger children, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body and can go from getting love to barking and back to wanting love. She just needs some more socialization and a good leader to expose her to children and unfamiliar situations so she doesn't get nervous and bark. Bella is at 86lbs and can be quite intimidating if you don't know her well LOL
