(5 years old) Good with kids and dogs. Not good with cats or small dogs.

November update:  King has come through his heartworm treatment just fine and is anxiously counting the days until he can begin chasing his squeekie ball again (he needs to rest his heart for a few weeks after treatment, so no romping).  Meanwhile, he has buried it in the yard so his foster brother can’t get it. ;-)  He’s also counting the days until his forever family finds him!  King is in his second foster home now—through no fault of his own, just to spread the love—and really wants his next move to be of the permanent variety.  He settled in easily with me and my two dogs and quickly learned the new house rule of not getting on the furniture (which was permitted in his previous home).  This tells me that he will also adapt to whatever your rules are, as long as you enforce them gently and consistently in the first few days.

King is a very happy boy who loves to play with both human and doggie companions.  His play can be big and bouncy though, so he should not be left unsupervised with small children.  He walks well on the leash when there are no distractions but, like many of our dogs, will benefit from additional training on leash manners.  He loves tummy rubs and riding in the car, and pays close attention to whatever his humans are doing.  He’s easy with other medium-to-large dogs as long as they are not “in your face” types.  He’s very patient in his crate but will quickly earn the right to be left loose, if you permit it.

His poor ears tell the tale of the horrible thing that happened to him in the past—yes, someone did that intentionally.  Remarkably, this has made him neither head-shy nor distrustful of humans—he’s the sweetest, silliest, most loving dog you’d ever want to meet.  We’ve told him that only good things lie ahead for him, and that’s fine by him—he says “Bring it on!  I’m not looking back and neither should you.  Just please, hurry up and find me!”
