I will never understand the callousness of some people who think there is no voice in response to their brutal behavior or a day where they themselves will have to answer, "WHY?" Well, that voice for many especially this "special" boy here on earth is GSRA! Bonze, the name so fitting for what his "owner" did to him. Bonze was literally skin and bones, weighing a mere 37 pounds, anemic, dying of pneumonia and suffering from an embedded collar. GSRA was nearly a day late in saving this precious soul, we did NOT know if he would make it, but left it up to him to tell us what he wanted. Day by day he began to improve physically, walk and eat. Bonze is the epitome of abuse, neglect and abandonment that has worked his way into a new class of "one of the best pups ever!" Bonze endured an emergency trip to the vet the day after being rescued from a shelter where the vet found no reason to explain the severe state of emaciation and labored breathing other than lack of being fed and an x-ray showing completely blackened lungs filled with pneumonia. Through medication and a loving foster home, Bonze is what you see today. Bonze is a super happy puppy! He loves children having tolerated two very active boys, ages 3 and 6, and does not lick all over them or jump up, in fact he truly just wants them to pet his belly and would love for them to share a toy every now and again. He allows my boys to lay on him and snuggle real close. Just having love his eyes tell the story. He has shown nothing but complete fondness for other dogs whether they are big or small, fat or skinny, he just loves companionship. With regard to that, he is a velcro dog, he follows mom everywhere and NEVER leaves the yard. He is crate trained but loves being outside during the day if the weather is nice. He will need a family with a fenced in yard so he can run and play and be safe. Bonze likes to snuggle and will sleep in the bed with you, but would probably transition to sleeping on a doggie bed just fine. Sorry, I just felt so much compassion for the lil guy I had to find a way to spoil him. He would do best with a doggie companion as I do believe he missed out so much on what it is like to be a pup that he enjoys having a friend to play with and learn from. He loves people and gets along great. He has huge, dark, inquisitive, expressive eyes and ears he will grow in to. He is probably not going to be a very large, massive dog estimating within the 65-75 pound range. We estimate him to be within the 10 to 16 month old age range. He does very well on the leash. Because of the embedded collar, we have been using a harness but are working slowly into a loose fitting collar. However, he never pulls and stays right with you. He sits on command for all food and will wait nicely. He has the absolute most wonderful temperament, he is calm and truly loves people and other animals, including kitties in a nice way :0) Bonze would make a super companion for just about anyone from the proficient dog owner to the first time novice GSD owner. He will be one of those special dogs that GSRA will always remember for the fight he fought to live, therefore, so deserving of a forever home that can give him all the love, attention, training and security that he needs. Bonze knew he had a purpose for fighting so hard to live and ultimately beat death to survive, we don't know that purpose, but his new home will surely be able to tell us....
