Lucy is a German Shepherd mix my wife and I found 2 weeks ago walking across the highway. She had a collar with no tag and was not chipped. We took her to the Charlotte shelter. Nobody claimed her and she was going to be euthanized, as she jerked her head around when the vet tech lifted her tail (she didn't show her teeth, bite or growl, though). The put a caution label on her and refused to consider her for adoption due to that.

We rescued her because she seemed nice when we picked her up off the highway and we wanted our own vet to check out her temperament. She was spayed and given a rabies shot at the shelter. When we picked her up we immediately took her to our vet and he did a full exam on her. She showed no signs of aggression - our vet says that she is a delightful dog. We had her bathed at the vet's office too, and she doesn't like to be restrained for grooming, but she didn't growl, try to bite or show her teeth to anyone.

Our vet gave her the rest of her shots, but she will need a distemper booster in 3 weeks. She is heartworm negative. We brought her home with us yesterday and she has been an absolute joy. She gets along great with our 2 dogs and she has a very calm demeanor. She is sweet and lovable. She is house broken and sleeps a lot during the day. She can sit, lie down and shake. We have taken her on a few walks and she pulls at first but gets better as the walk continues. We have only heard her bark a few times when she gets excited to go out or to play. The people at the shelter said they thought she was about 4-5 years old, but she seems much younger than that, probably not any older than 2. She is about 50 lbs. but very skinny.

She is a very sweet dog who is in need of a good, loving home.
