GRACIE ~5 years old.  Good with farm animals.  Kids and dogs TBD.  Not good with cats.

Please contact the person below if you would like to be considered as a home for Gracie

My husband & I first saw Grace 3 years ago. Her owner was using electricity to try and discipline her and make her walk to heel. Gracie was in great distress and my husband decided the dog deserved to be re-homed. After talking with the family, it turned out Grace was being kept 24/7 in a laundry room, alone. She was going crazy due to lack of contact and stimulation. By the time the owner finally agreed to sign Grace over to us, she was an emotional and behavioral mess. Because of her isolation and continual abuse with the shock collar, she was extremely fear aggressive but, for some reason, really bonded with my husband. When we got her home, we embarked on a 9 month journey to try to rehabilitate her. Even with our experience of working with rescue shepherds, we were not able to give Grace the training and guidance she needed to regain her confidence in the world and in people. Therefore, we sent her to well-reputed, HUMANE trainer who worked hard with Grace to help settle her fears and get her to see that the big, wide world is not that scary after all and that most people are nice and CAN be trusted. The trainers also found Grace bonded with them, showing she can/will develop trust. Grace will always be a work-in-progress kind of girl, but at least now she has a good foundation on which she can build her social skills.
If you are patient and allow Grace to warm up to you you will find that she is a beautiful, super smart, working-mentality GSD. Even with all the training and care she has been given thus far by us she will need a very special home. Grace is not, and will never be, a “subdivision” type of dog that will be welcoming to new people and who will want to be patted. She is best suited as an only dog in a quiet environment with someone who will be her best friend…. and who wants a best, loyal friend in return. Since Grace was kept in a dark small space for so many years, she does not do well with a lot of stimulation and a lot of things going on around her. Grace needs someone who will take things slow with her and who will understand and accept her limitations. Grace bonds like super glue to “her” human and will do anything for them. She loves to go for walks on our farm and will happily jump in the car to run errands with us. She has changed so much in the time we have had her. Grace is house trained, crate trained, fully vetted and in excellent health( and she loves jumping in bed! ).... We believe she is about 5 years old.
Anyone interested in giving Grace a forever home will have to be experienced at handling working-breed dogs. Because Grace takes time to warm up to new people it will take numerous visits with Grace in order for her to become comfortable with her new human. Grace cannot go to a home with children or other pets. She does well on our farm with horses and goats but must always be supervised when around these animals. Grace needs someone who is committed to continuing her rehabilitation. She has been terribly abused in her short life and deserves a future that will make up for her early years.
Please call us to discuss any questions you have about her and to see if you are her saving grace angel!
