Foster Mom Update ( 4-17-14 ) - Charlie is an easy going, well natured dog.  He gets along with everyone and everything!!! He loves children, cats, dogs, and farm animals…you name it he’s friends with it! At first he might be a little shy but don't let that fool you because once he does meet you he is a total fun loving “LOVEBUG”! He loves his toys and is always looking for someone to play with him. You should see his video!! He loves his family, all his friends and is fine with visitors when introduced properly (after all he’s a big boy). Charlie is such a sweet gentle soul that will shower your family with so much love and affection.

----------------------------------------------------

Ok so we know the first thing that comes to your mind is “what is this fellow doing in a shepherd rescue, he is not a shepherd”, right? Well Charlie is one of our “honorary” GSD’s, he needed a new home and after meeting him, well our volunteer couldn't say no. There’s something special about Charlie, he’s such a sweet well natured guy and really it’s all about saving dogs right? And besides he has the heart of a GSD so that should count for something!! It’s taken a couple months for Charlie to relax and not having a lot of people coming and going really helped out a lot.  Charlie needs a quieter home, one without a lot of young children or people coming and going all the time.

Now don’t get us wrong, Charlie loves everyone, it’s just the introduction that can be stressful. He gets along beautifully with kids, people, dogs and cats and is more than content to entertain himself with a toy or bone. We do want him to have a companion animal as well, he loves to play with other dogs and enjoys their company. He is perfect in the house, he’ll just follow you around or ask for attention but he’s not “needy”, he loves to curl up on the couch with you and basically like all dogs just wants to be with his human. He walks great on a leash and loves his walks, but sometimes he gets a stubborn streak and wants to decide how long the walk is, if he isn’t ready to go back home he’ll lay down in the grass, roll on his back and do his little wiggle, he can be such a silly boy! He is actually pretty well trained, he will sit for treats without you asking, of course he LOVES his treats and food, he’s not starving as you can see but sometimes he likes to act like he is. He’s crate and house trained but he is perfect in the house with free reign.

So, Charlie would be perfect for a family without many children, a quiet low-key environment with a companion dog would be ideal. Remember he needs a strong leader so if you’re a first time dog owner he probably isn’t the right guy for you.

And please don’t let his looks turn you away, this boy is just a sweetheart, he has already melted many hearts in the rescue and if you give him a chance he’ll melt yours too!
