Greetings distinguished humans -

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Norfolk. My foster parents also sometimes call me "The Duke" and foster dad says it's because I deserve to be treated like royalty. My past is shrouded in mystery and I am unable to speak to why and how I was found wandering the streets. By happenstance, I was picked up along with another canine travel companion and taken to the shelter.

GSRA was alerted to my situation and they agreed to help me find a home that was more becoming of a noble and handsome GSD like me. The vet says that I'm about three years old, and that I have an excellent coat and teeth given that I was picked up as a stray. My foster dad thinks that I have been inside a home before based on my behavior, but I'm unable to either confirm or deny this. He tells me that I'm housebroken because I do not soil my crate and do my utmost to alert a human that I need a bathroom break. Regarding the crate, I currently eat and sleep overnight in my crate. I do not love the crate but I am both smart and obedient and have learned to listen to my foster parents when they ask me to get inside the crate.

I share a foster home with two other GSDs and some cats. I get along with the other dogs but the younger one sometimes gets on my nerves because he is high energy. We play occasionally but I much prefer hanging out with my foster parents. I am curious about one of the cats in my foster home because I do not have much experience with them. I do not chase him, but will sniff at him at times because I'm still trying to figure out just what exactly is a cat and what is their purpose. If foster dad tells me to leave the cat alone then I listen the first time and will walk away to a human. Foster dad says that I am ok with dog-savvy cats only.

I've been told that I am a velcro-sheppie. I will lean on my humans very hard to show my affection and for reassurance. I prefer to be with my foster parents as much as possible and would need someone to be home with me more often than not. I love attention and like nothing better than cuddling on the floor or the couch. Foster dad says that I act like a lap dog, whatever that is. One of my favorite things to do is lay in the lap or between the legs of one of my foster parents and get belly rubs and chest scratches. I could do that all day. I will cuddle up next to you on the couch if you let me.

I am still working on how to walk on a leash without pulling, but know that I can get there with continued encouragement and investment. My natural prey drive kicks in once I'm outside of the house, so squirrels and birds beware. Foster dad says that because of my instincts, I have to be on a leash anytime I am outside of the house. The only exception is the fenced in backyard. Sometimes I get really excited to see my humans and I jump up to hug them. My foster parents say that I need to work on this and that I might accidentally and unintentionally knock over a smaller human. They remind me when I forget this and I do my best to listen.

I will gladly join you on all kinds of trips, whether it's in the car to go to Home Depot or just down the hall to the bathroom. I'm looking for my new forever best friend. Could it be you?
